Welcome to my blog. I plan to do posts in the same style as Slate Star Codex - that is, humor, or observations, with rigorous analysis. Inevitably, though, things will be different. After all, Scott is Scott, and I am me. Let’s go to questions.
Q: Why make this blog?
A: Because I think that I have something important to share, or at least interesting thoughts to give. Specifically, I think these two things, and I think that I’m self-aware enough to know whether I’ll be able to differentiate myself from every other college student that thinks those exact two things. Inevitably, I will be somewhat wrong about that. So if I know that, why am I writing this?
There is a lot of writing from people who think their thoughts are unique. This can either be because they are actually unique, or simply because they’re naive enough to not know they’re already out there. There is not a lot of writing from people less confident in that statement. Therefore, even if my thoughts aren’t unique, as long as they're unique in being shared in this format, I will have Contributed to the Discourse by going against my instincts.
There’s a chance they’re genuinely unique. There is a very large amount that has been written about a whole lot of stuff, and it would take me a very large amount of time to check it all. If I simply write what I think anyway, either someone will see where my train of thought is going and rightfully ignore it, or they won’t have encountered it and I’ll have served a purpose anyway.
Because I want to.
Q: Why read this blog?
A: Hopefully the writing will have a quality to it that will appeal to you, in some way. I can’t promise that reading will fix the world, or make you a better person, be educational or even be interesting. But I would like to fix the world. If it doesn’t fix the world, maybe it’ll make you a better person. If it doesn’t do that, I would settle for it being educational. And if it fails that, too, then it may as well be entertaining.
Q: Who are you?
I’m a college student in America.
Q: Biggest regret?
Didn’t buy bitcoin when I watched a news segment about it, back when you could get a thousand for a dollar.
Hopefully that covers our bases. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them below - I’ll do my best to answer promptly. Look forward to my first blog post - about Homo Quasiliteraturus!
